Michael E. Kitchens, Composer Mike Kitchens

Mike Kitchens has been writing original music for the past decade for a multitude of venues. He has written for the California State University Sacramento Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensembles. His Marching Band arrangements are still played by the CSUS Marching Band.

Born in Sacramento in 1978, Mike became involved in music at the age of 11 when he joined the music program at his Jr. High school. His first instrument was the Trumpet. His musical curiosities lead him to learn the piano next and then all the brass instruments soon followed. In high school, he found he had a knack for arranging parts in his brass section that sounded better than the original arrangements. Thus he turned to Composing; in particular, composing music for the movies.

Mike attended college at Sacramento State University Sacramento (CSUS) from 1996-2001. In the years spent there he learned a great deal about the music he did not want to write (Atonal music), and discovered that he could not make his dreams of becoming a film composer attending CSUS. Therefore, in March 2003, Mike attended and graduated from The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences, (Tempe AZ.) where he learned how to record and master his own works onto CD and run a recording studio where he could compose music for up and coming movies. And thus was started Sonic Kitchen Studios (SKS), Mike's Film Scoring Company.

Mike hopes to continue working in the film scoring business as long as it allows artistic freedom and collaboration to be the tools to create great films and great art. He uses the following software and instruments to create his scores: Nuendo 2.0 Recording Program, Finale 3.0 Music Scoring Software, Waves Bundle Plug-in, Amplitube Plug-in, Edirol Orchestral VST, Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum Sound Card, Casio Workstation 1800 Keyboard, Epiphone Masterbuilt Acoustic Guitar, MK 421 Electric Guitar, Polk Audio 2way 8” Monitors, Mics - AudioTechnica 30 and Studio Projects B1.
